Why is death so powerful?

In 1 Corinthians 15:55, Paul repeated the questions from Hosea 13:14. Hosea did not give answers to those questions. The verse in Hosea is describing the time when God will defeat the power of death. Then death will have no power; it will be unable to hurt God’s people. The purpose of the questions was to emphasise that fact. God was using those questions to laugh at the weakness of death, as a soldier laughs at his enemy’s defeat.

Paul too used those questions to emphasise how God will defeat death. However, Paul chose to answer those questions. In the future, death will lose its power. In the future, death cannot hurt God’s people. But now it does both these things; death is powerful, and it hurts God’s people. Like Paul, we ask why.

Paul’s answer is that death hurts people because of sin. That is, the wrong and evil things that we all do (Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23). Genesis chapter 3 (especially Genesis 3:19) tells us that death entered the world because of sin. Paul then explains that death has power over people because of God’s Holy law. The purpose of God’s law was not to cause death but to bring life. However, people did not obey God’s law and the punishment for that is death. Paul explains this idea further in Romans 7:7-13.

Christ dealt with both these matters at His death. On the cross, Christ suffered for our sin(Isaiah 53:4-6). He made it possible for God to forgive us. At the same time, Christ satisfied all that God’s Holy law demanded (Galatians 3:13; Hebrews 9:11-14). That is why the defeat of death is so complete.

Although death still seems powerful, the defeat of death is certain. In fact, Christ has already done everything necessary to defeat death(Hebrews 2:14-15).

Paul had almost finished his letter to Corinth (1Cor. 15:58). He had given the Christians there the advice that they needed. He had dealt with the problems in their church. Only a few personal matters remained, which he will discuss in 1 Corinthians chapter 16.

So now Paul wished to give the Christians some instructions that would help them to avoid similar problems in the future. He wanted those instructions to be brief, clear and simple; something that they could remember. So, Paul told them to be firm and to do God’s work.

In the past, they had continued to believe firmly in the most important Christian beliefs (11:2). However, people had persuaded them to do many foolish things. There was much confusion at their meetings and there were arguments among their members. The leaders of the church had been too weak to deal with these matters; now they(WE)must be strong. So should all the Christians who were sincere about their relationship with God. They should not copy the behaviour of foolish people who only wanted to establish their own importance.

Then Paul told them to do God’s work. They should declare his good news, and they should teach his word, the Bible. They should pray much, and they should serve each other with love. They should obey God in all their actions, and they should love him with their whole hearts.

Too often in the past, they had worked to make themselves important. They tried to prove that they were right. They tried to impress people with the gifts that the Holy Spirit had given them. They tried to show that they had great wisdom and knowledge. Now, this wrong behaviour must stop. Now, they must be humble and they must serve God.

Reading for today: 1Corinthians 15:56-58 NLT  For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

YEARNING FOR THE PRESENCE OF GOD

I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR
In all things with Prayer
and Supplication, make your requests known. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

Prayer is simply talking to God, who loves you and wants what is best for you. Very simply put, it’s THAT dialogue you would have with your loved ones who’s presence and conversation you miss.  Your spirit misses God when you do not spend time talking to Him. The Bible often says that this longing to be with God is like being thirsty or hungry. Psalm 42:1-2: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” You can go to God in prayer and find Him, just as the deer finds water in a stream when it is thirsty. Philippians 4:4-8 reminds us: Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

My God WILL show up!

The one thing I ask of the Lord — the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord ’s perfections and meditating in his Temple. For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock. Hear me as I pray, O  Lord . Be merciful and answer me! My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “ Lord , I am coming.” Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close. Teach me how to live, O  Lord . Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me. Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence. Yet I am confident I will see the Lord ’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. For you will lead these people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors he would give them. You are the one who will divide it among them as their grants of land. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT)

When Solomon had finished all these prayers and supplications to the Lord , he rose from before the altar of the Lord, where he had been kneeling with his hands spread out toward heaven. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses. May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us nor forsake us. Thank God that He loves us and wants us to learn to talk to Him through prayer. Ask God to teach you how to pray. Amen!

Thought for today: Perfect In Love

Everything we stand in need of is in God.
There is no other name under heaven by which all men can be saved. There is none like Our God.

I’ve heard 1 John 4:18 read many times at weddings and it truly is a beautiful scripture to reflect upon. God is perfection in every way and without any faults or sin. His love towards us is perfect in every way as well. It’s completely unconditional and given away extravagantly.

As much as we’d like to think we fear nothing in life, at times we do. The hope we have as Christians is that in the midst of whatever we fear, we can turn and rest in God’s love knowing that His love overshadows even the greatest fear. When fear may try to creep in, we need not fight with pride or our strength but with the perfect love found in our God. A love so perfect that He would send His son Jesus to die on the cross for us! This perfect love conquered fear forever!

*What are you afraid of ?
Take all your fears, multiply them by 100, and then place them on the scale called God’s love. His love makes even the biggest fear look so small. Perfect Love Casts Out ALL fear!!!

GOD NEVER CHANGES

“And This Is Who YOU Are”

Things are always changing in our busy world. Things are constantly shifting.

You are in a constant state of change! As a matter of fact the only thing that we can agree upon is…the ONLY thing that is constant IS change!  Each and every day we age, we grow, we change: our clothes, our appearance, our thoughts, our opinions and our worldviews. Change is a part of life, and it’s something we typically come to accept.

However, in the middle of all things shifting, God never changes. He’s the One constant thing that we can always look to who is firm, and fixed in our lives.

God IS My Constant

Through everything we experience, the ups and downs, the changes, the shifting, I know that I can always look towards Thee Only constant, and FAITHFUL God. *************************************************❤Not sure which way to go, which way is up or which what is right? No matter what your circumstance, no matter how quickly things seem to moving around in your life, fix your eyes on God! God is always faithful, God is always present, and God is constant…through it all.

Is Love Your First Priority?

Where does love fit into your list of priorities? Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you” (JOHN 13:34 NKJV). It seems to me that Jesus was saying love is the main thing on which we should concentrate. The apostle Paul states that “faith, hope, love abide . . . but the greatest of these is love” (1 CORINTHIANS 13:13).

Love should be number one on our spiritual priority list. We should study love, pray about love, and develop the fruit of love by practicing loving others. God is love, so when we walk in His love we abide in Him.

Because we walk in God’s love by receiving and expressing it, we should not deceive ourselves into thinking we can love God while we hate other people (SEE 1 JOHN 4:20). It took me about forty-five years to realize that my priorities were mixed up and that I was not making love the main thing in my life. The commitment to learn how to walk in love has been the single best decision I have ever made as a Christian.

“Won’t God Do It”

God has a purpose for each one of us. Some of us know our purpose while others are still in the process of uncovering it. When we know our purpose, God uses it to enable us to renew His kingdom, but in order to renew His kingdom; we must continually renew our purpose and ourselves. Don’t let God’s purpose for your life become stale and feel old to you. Allow God to renew His purpose in such a way that it feels as fresh as the day you first uncovered it. Ask Him to expand your purpose and show you specifically the ways you can contribute to renewing His kingdom in the same way He has renewed your life and purpose.

July 19 (wk30) – Renewed Hearts
💞The heart is the center of life. It is within this uniquely created internal organ that we have physical life. Without it, life is just not possible. The heart is also the center of spiritual life. Proverbs tell us that we must guard our heart because it is the wellspring ⛲of both physical and spiritual life. Our heart determines our actions and reflects whether or not Christ is the center of our lives. That is why it is important that we ask God to continually renew our hearts.

💗Take an inventory of your heart NOW *Is your heart where it needs to be or do you need God’s renewal?
💒Ask God to renew your heart and commit that He will remain at the center of your heart.

Today Is HIS Day!!!!!

Today I take my only son to Pittsburgh (from Delaware) for college. He has been with me and his sister for 21 years…we have never been apart!

I, with God’s help and guidance, have equipped him with the skills, values and character to do anything he believes in faith, through effort and perseverance, with an attitude of excellence!

I now release him to himself, society and Our God to evolve into the man God created, purposed and shaped him to become.

Become your definition of a better person

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 gives us a friendly reminder about the importance of not only renewing what’s on the inside, but also what’s on the outside. Think about it for a moment. Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and should be treated as such. Would you let your church building look run down or distressed? Of course not! If repairs were needed to your church, you would renovate your church so that it stands as a shining beacon of Christ’s love in your community. Therefore, shouldn’t we treat our bodies the same way and continually renew them so that they are able to carry out God’s purpose for our lives? In what ways do you need to renew your body? Renewal can look different for everyone. For some it might be the need for a little more exercise or a better diet. It could be the need for physical healing. For others, it may be allowing God to renew you from a past sexual sin. Find where you need renewal for your body and allow God to work His healing in your life.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

God Restores: It’s Your Season To Be Blessed !

All of us become disappointed when we have a plan that fails, a hope that does not materialize, a goal that is unreached. When things like that happen, for a certain period of time we experience a letdown, one that can lead to despair if it is not handled properly.

That’s when we have to make the decision to adapt and adjust, to take a new approach, to just keep going despite our feelings. That’s when we must remember that we have the God residing within us, so that no matter what may happen to frustrate us, or how long it may take for our dreams and goals to become reality, we are not going to give up and quit just because of our emotions.

Disappointment often leads to discouragement, which is even more of a “downer.” *How disappointing and discouraging it is to see the things we love senselessly destroyed by others or, even worse, by our own neglect or failure.

Regardless of how it may happen or who may be responsible, it is hard to go on when everything we have counted on falls down around us. That’s when those of us who have the creative power of the Holy Spirit on the inside can get a new vision, a new direction, and a new goal to help us overcome the downward pull of disappointment, discouragement, and destruction.
*Don’t give up on God & don’t give up on YOU!*
